Our Lady of Sacred Harvest

In the O'odham tradition, women have the honor of harvesting the fruits of the saguaro and preparing the sacred wine . The opened, opening, and yet to open fruit, each with a thousand black seeds, speak to the abundance and promise of life. As the saguaro blossoms mature, the fruits develop along with the summer monsoon rains, marking the new year and rejuvenation of life. Capturing the sacred and creative spirit of the desert, the saguaro ribs and reaching arms are representative of the ancestors and gratitude toward the life giving nature of the towering saguaro.
